Kamikōchi - Nagano Prefecture

Updated: Dec 2, 2019

Kamikochi is a very picturesque resort in the Northern Japan Alps of Nagano Prefecture, offering some of Japan's most spectacular mountain scenery. It's open from mid/late April until November 15 and is shut during winter.

Kamikochi is a roughly 15km plateau in the Azusa River Valley & forms a part of Chibu Sangaku National Part. The elevation is approx. 1,550m above sea level & the beautiful river in the centre is surrounded by tall mountains & an active volcano.

Particularly beautiful during the autumn foliage season, which peaks in from mid to end of October.

Among the nature abounding are monkeys and various birds and other wildlife.
