Kyoto

Updated: Dec 2, 2019

When you close your eyes and think of Japan, you're probably picturing the classic images of Kyoto.

Here you'll find sublime Zen rock gardens, mysterious Buddhist temples, colourful Shinto shrines and occasionally catch a glimpse of graceful geisha.

Kyoto is a cultural and historical heart of the country and is the best place in all Japan to experience traditional temples, shrines, gardens, geisha, shops, restaurants and festivals all in one city.

Famous for its Gold leaf temple and many others, stunning sights are abundant here.

Some people like to spend days here (so long as they don't mind the crowds), but with a car, you have the choice and can take off when you have seen enough, then go to see other less crowded sights not far away, or travel further and enjoy stunning remote places in the countryside too.

If you've not seen Kyoto before though, we recommend planning at least a day's tour here.

There is lots to discover and you will be enchanted by the atmosphere & the many unforgettable sights.
